More Info

Also known by their scientific name Adansonia, boab trees produce a large fruit that is commonly consumed and appreciated for its delicious citrus-like flavour.

Endemic to Australia, Boab occurs in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, and east into the Northern Territory. It is the only baobab to occur in Australia.

Break open the hard case of a boab nut, and you will find the creamy-white fruit in which the seeds are nestled.  This dry powdery fruit pulp, with its tangy citrus flavour, is edible.  The pith is rich in nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and importantly vitamin C. The pith stays good to eat many months after falling from the tree.
