In Community with Food
Aloha from Hawaii!
We are so inspired beyond words after witnessing this community gathering on Kaua'i for the second year of In Community with Food for a fantastic three days of enriching conversation, exploration of Hawaiian food lead by Chefs Lee Ann Wong and Kealoha Domingo, culinary demos, cultural activities, and field trips to our wonderful partners Malama Huleia and Hui Maka'ainana o Makana.
It was equally wonderful to greet our brothers and sisters from afar as it was to forge new connection with friends & family from Hawaii and as far as New Zealand, South Dakota, Colorado, London, Costa Rica, Chile, and the Sudan – all of whom are committed to restoring our lands and strengthening our communities.
Both Damien and Myself sat on a few different panels over the three days and spent time on-country listening and learning from many people working hard to restore food systems and food justice. I also ran a Native tea blending session combining powerful Hawaiian and Native Australian plants and with our sister Nornie Bero made damper to share using Uncle Bruce Pascoes Native grass flour for all to try.
Needless to say we have returned filled with inspiration, story and a sense of place. Mahalo.
